Married to Nestlé expatriate Aziz Latrous, Swiss national Ms Lotti Latrous accompanied her Tunisian husband on missions in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, before arriving in Abidjan in the late 1990s. Confronted by the misery of AIDS and the lack of facilities and treatment, in 1999 Ms Latrous created a medical centre to cater to dying patients in the last months of their lives.
Over the past 4 years Ms Latrous has opened four "Centres d'Espoir". Financed by funds and donations from many private and several corporate donors, including Nestlé, these facilities help patients "die with dignity". Ms Latrous' latest project is to create an additional centre for HIV-positive mothers and their children.
