The nationwide Malaria-In-Pregnancy Outreach programme was launched on Malaria Day, April 25, 2007 at Mantse Agbona, Jamestown, Accra.
Malaria was chosen because it is the number one (1) killer in Africa and malaria infection, in pregnant women, sometimes results in premature deliveries, low-weight births, still-births and/or death of the expectant mother.
This is of major concern to the Ministry of Health in Ghana and the National Malaria Control Programme (under the government agency Ghana Health Service) invited corporate bodies to support its programme in the fight against malaria. Nestlé Ghana responded to this because the welfare of women and children is of vital importance to our business.
This programme is driven by the Nestlé Ghana Duchess Club. A group of women trained in Nutrition and Health matters, who promote the values of healthy lifestyles by creating awareness in rural and cosmopolitan communities
