Through the Nutrition division and Nestle Nutrition Institute Africa, Nestlé Kenya has facilitated postgraduate scholarship programs for local doctors/nutritionists to study (overseas) in various fields of specialization, e.g. Public Health, Neonatology, etc. We also sponsored attendance of short-course specialized training locally and in South Africa. Nestlé Kenya has also sponsored relevant health professionals to attend both local and overseas scientific conferences, including Nestlé Nutrition Workshop meetings. In co-ordination with NNIA, Nestlé Kenya has also facilitated support of community -based nutrition/public health research programs by local scientists from the universities.
The nutrition team frequently facilitates and participates in various scientific workshops, conferences and continuous medical education (CME's) meetings with various health professionals and their associations. We frequently sponsor resource persons in various fields of specialization to present educational, scientific papers in such forums. The nutrition team also co-ordinates the sourcing, access to and distribution of Nestlé scientific resource materials (books/handouts, videos, CD's, etc) among relevant health professionals, health institution, and training college libraries.
The nutrition team, together with other players in the industry is also working closely with the relevant Ministry of health department to facilitate activities or programs that address the nutrition-related public health issues of current concern, e.g. the micro-nutrient deficiency intervention program (public education and food fortification), nutrition intervention in ill-health and low birth weight (currently a big problem; about 300,000 cases of premature or low birth weight infants per year, according to estimation by a leading neonatologist).
