Nestlé’s primary contribution to the fight against HIV and AIDS is to support global and national initiatives to reduce the spread of infection and minimize its impact. Nestlé S.A supported the African Health Initiative 2010 (ARCHI 2010) initiated by the International Federation of Red Cross Society with a financial contribution of CHF 3 million in 2002 for a focused HIV/AIDS peer education programme in Nigeria.

To further promote healthy lifestyle and improve knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, Nestlé Nigeria collaborated with the Nigerian Red Cross Society to produce informational, educational and communication materials such as brochures and posters.

The first brochure,  HIV/AIDS Questions and Answers was produced in 2003 while the second publication: NUTRITION and HIV/AIDS: Basic Facts was produced in 2004. To facilitate greater involvement of the civil society and ensure proper dissemination and understanding of HIV and AIDS in the local community, the two brochures were also published in three major Nigerian languages: Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba.

About 150,000 copies of the brochure were donated to the Nigerian Red Cross Society. Nestlé partnership with the Red Cross has contributed immensely to the reduction of HIV/AIDS prevalence in Nigeria through strategic focus on Peer Education, Home Based Care, Counselling, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-stigmatization campaigns. Nestlé continues to forge partnerships with other private sector partners and Non-Governmental Organisations involved in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. Notable among such organizations is the Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS (NIBUCAA). It is a private sector forum aimed at  sharing best practices across the business to mitigate any potential impact of HIV/AIDS on employees, business and the wider Nigerian Community. Nestlé also collaborates with Society for Women and AIDS in Africa on HIV/AIDS, an NGO commited to creating a Nigerian environment free from HIV/AIDS.
