The Caqueta dairy district was created in 1974 benefiting 3500 small dairy ranchers of the region with technical service and access to micro-credits provided by Nestle of Colombia.

The Dairy Development Plan includes: Technology transfer, improvement of cattle's nutrition and breeding, and the infrastructure of the ranches, protection of the forest and the upgrading of milk quality.

During the year 2008, 10 cattle ranchers will be benefited with new technology on pasture for sustainable livestock known as Silvopastoreo, the objective of the project is to increase production by 40% within the next ten years, without increasing the number livestock and with an investment of 1,700 million pesos.
