Nestlé participates in a number of health fairs and festivals organised by medical associations, civic groups, government ministries, schools and other community organizations, which offer Jamaicans an opportunity to obtain free health checks. Nestlé provides funding for these fairs in collaboration with other agencies and also provides healthy food products such as MILO, SUPLIGEN, Nestlé Breakfast Cereals, SVELTY Skimmed Milk and Nestlé Low Fat Milk with Omega 3:6, for persons attending the fairs. Nestlé personnel at these fairs also share nutritional information and product information.
In 2008, Nestle Jamaica embarked on a regional initiative, dubbed, “Take a Hi-5 for Life”.
The main objective of the program is to enhance the quality of life of Jamaicans by demonstrating 5 simple steps – Eat Healthy, Control Portions, Be Active, Check Health and Be Happy – towards living a happier, healthier life.
Five Hi-5 booths have been constructed and are used at major health and wellness expositions.
Through its mobile unit, “The Wellness Caravan”, Nestlé Jamaica is able to take its nutrition, health and wellness message to consumers in communities across the island. The activities of the Wellness Caravan activities include health checks, such as hypertension, cholesterol tests Body Mass Index checks, recipe demonstrations and physical activities.
Nestlé publishes a quarterly Living Well Magazine which is distributed though our mailing list of fifty five thousand consumers, as well as at events, to doctors and other opinion leaders. Regular newspaper editorials based on the five steps also appear monthly in the island’s leading newspaper.
