Education and Training

Reconstructing a school

In 2003, Nestlé Indonesia entered into cooperation with a non-profit Indonesian organisation called the Yayasan Nurani Dunia (YND) in an effort to help improve education quality in the area around the Kejayan factory.
This program is being undertaken as Nestle Indonesia is deeply concerned by the fact that many of the buildings and other facilities in a number of schools near the plant are in very poor condition. Some of the walls are cracked, while some appear almost ready to collapse. If these deficiencies are not addressed immediately, it will jeopardise the students’ education. Nestle Indonesia  realises that good buildings and facilities will help improve the quality of the education provided and boost the students’ willingness to pursue their studies.

One of the activities to be undertaken as part of the will be the renovation of the Tanggulangin 73 State Elementary School, which includes the rebuilding of the  classrooms, library, headmaster’s and teachers’ rooms, function room, security room, storage room, canteen, restrooms, and foyer, and the renovation of the schoolyard, as well as the provision of books and facilities to support the children in their studies. Eventually, the building and facilities will be able to be utilised as a learning centre by the Kejayan community.

With assistance from YND, Nestle Indonesia will work hand-in-hand with community and other stakeholders in a bid to create a strong sense of ownership in the program on the part of the community. Hopefully, this will lead to the community independently maintaining the facilities when they are completed, thus ensure the long-term sustainability of the program.

Availing of the improved infrastructure, YND will conduct various training activities in a bid to raise the quality of education and develop human resources in the area surrounding the Nestle plant.

In addition, Nestlé, via the YND, has been renovating and building libraries in the Raudatul Ulum Islamic boarding school (Pesantren), and the Miftahul Huda Islamic school (Madrasah). To ensure that the active involvement of the community in this programme, a publicity campaign to inform and educate local residents on its importance was carried out.
