Support to Rural Communities

Nestlé Pakistan helps to alleviate the suffering of rural populations who do not have easy access to drinking water, by undertaking tube-well and hand pump installation schemes. Two such tube wells have been completed in the villages of Dunyapur and Chishtian with populations of about 3000 each. These communities had to carry water daily from long distances but with this scheme in place they now have water available at their doorstep. Similarly, to meet water needs of the inhabitants of the desert regions of Cholistan and Thar, where water is scarce, 300 hand pumps have been installed during 2003 and 2004 in collaboration with local NGOs, bringing much awaited relief to the local populations.
