Leading a healthy life means having clean surroundings. Nestlé factories regularly conduct training programs on hygiene and health, safety and security, home nursing, and 5S for community residents. These training programs are conducted in cooperation with the local government agencies and health offices.
Nestlé Factories annually join hands with the local government in battling the threat of dengue in their respective communities. The Cabuyao Factory fumigates Barangay Niugan and the public schools in the neighboring barangays before school starts every year. Lipa Factory’s Combat Dengue Program consists of preventive and corrective measures designed to fight dengue via a two-pronged approach. To prevent a dengue outbreak, the factory and the local government sponsored a series of lectures for community residents on good housekeeping and distributed easy-to-understand leaflets describing the dengue-carrier mosquito and its habitat, the symptoms of dengue fever and its treatment, plus some countermeasures and domestic practices to fight dengue. The other half of the Combat Dengue Program focuses on corrective measures, which involve a thorough clean-up of the community, including proper garbage disposal and fumigation of susceptible areas. To sustain the program, Lipa Factory and the Barangay officials promote the Round-the-Clock Habit where every household is made aware of its responsibility to keep its surroundings clean round the clock.
Nestlé brands also do their share in promoting nutrition in the country. In partnership with the Osteoporosis Society of the Philippines, Nestlé, through CARNATION Calcium Plus, has embarked on an awareness campaign informing the public about the debilitating effects of osteoporosis and the various ways this can be avoided. An integral part of the campaign is Operation Bone Check, a national bone-screening program to detect bone mass, to see whether or not it is within the healthy range. This activity takes place in high traffic areas such as shopping malls, clinics and offices.
