Nestlé is one of Thailand’s major honey buyers, therefore Nestlé and the Bees Research Center, Chiang Mai University have been working closely since 2002 to raise the standard of bee farming in the North.
Quality honey must be pure, free of contaminants and additives to be safe to consume. Farmers need to take care of quality from the very first steps, that is, obtaining quality breeds, bee-farming equipment, farm management, honey collection and storage as well as the quality of orchard where no chemicals must be used and anti-biotic should be avoided. Honey not passing the strict quality screening is rejected but Nestle agricultural experts will contact the rejected farmers to work on measures to improve their produce next season.
Nestle’s effort in creating a sustainable supply of high-quality and safe honey will not only benefit consumers but also generate higher income for farmers.
