Drying coffee beansAs one of the world's leading coffee producers, every year the Nestle Group consumes around 20% to 25% of Vietnam total coffee export. In this regard, Nestlé Vietnam is acting as a quality control center for coffee purchase of Nestlé's factories around the world. Nestlé’s coffee experts have come to Vietnam and worked with Vietnamese coffee organizations and coffee growers on how to improve coffee quality (especially post-harvest treatment) and study ways of application of coffee direct procurement. A pilot project of direct procurement is being applied in Vietnam to ensure good quality of coffee for local production, as a first step. Recently, in an effort to help the Vietnamese Coffee Industry with technical support, a Vietnamese scientist was sent to Nestle Research Center in Tours-France for a one-year training on DNA fingerprinting and somatic Embryogenesis. On return to Vietnam, the scientist will help to transfer new technology to coffee growers.
