National Nutrition Program
As in many fast developing countries Vietnam is seeing a widening gap between the poor and an emerging new, more prosperous society, a situation which brings with it both the traditional malnutrition of the poor and the new phenomenon of obesity in children at the other end of the spectrum. To assist in addressing this situation and in response to the initiative of the government’s National Nutrition Program for 2000 – 2010, Nestlé Vietnam joined with the National Institute of Nutrition to conduct a nationwide survey to ascertain the scale of the problem. The results of the survey, in confirming the seriousness of both traditional malnutrition and obesity, have provided a major contribution to the efforts of the relevant authorities to counter this alarming trend and assist the country in reaching its nutrition targets by the year 2010.
