Nestlé Austria is the major sponsor of these running events since 2000, when the event took place in all 9 federal states for the first time. Our aim is to get children into running, the most natural movement pattern. To us it is important that as many children as possible start to run, it’s not only being the winner but to be present. Therefore Nestlé gives an additional sweetener, the Nestlé school-breakfast: in each of the 9 federal Austrian states the school with the most participants (in relation to the size of the school) wins a school-breakfast-party with a small lecture on healthy eating and a nutrition-quiz-game (held by a nutritionist). Our Objective is to get more children into running by showing that it is great to measure against each other and also being part of the run brings a lot of fun. Furthermore we want to make the children more familiar with the Nutrition-pyramid and raise their awareness of the importance of physical activity and a well balanced diet for their physical performance.
This Event is the only Austria-wide running event for students aged 6 to 19. It takes place once a year in each of the 9 Federal States of Austria. At one additional award, the finale, the best participants of the other 9 events can measure against each other.
Snacks and drinks are provided to the participants (from Nestlé: Cereals, Nesquik-Kakao, Nestlé Water,…). There are 12 running-groups depending on age and gender. In each group there is a winner, a second and a third place.
Starting with 2007 each participant gets a sport-back (filled with Nestlé Water, Cereals…) with the nutrition pyramid printed on it showing that nutrition and physical activity are important factors that influence the personal wellbeing.
This year 2008/09 the Nestlé Austria Schulläufe celebrate 10years jubilee. Marina Schneider a well known athlete will support the events with here appearance and give interesting insights to here life and carrier.
In the school-year 2007 / 2008 more 12.000 children – plus their teachers and some of the parents - joined this event.
