First launched in 1984 in the United States, Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) develops educational tools to raise public awarness about water issues. These tools are for schoolteachers who can then teach their pupils about the topic. In 2001, Nestlé Waters M.T. agreed on a first international partnership with Project WET, and has developed a simple approach, which includes seven activities specially adapted for 8-12 year-old children.
Nestlé Waters France had joined forces with local, regional and national organizations who are involved in education on sustainable development. Nestlé Waters contributed to sustainable development and provide all its expertise on water management issues through WET Program.
The WET program in France uses different aspects of the national curricula taught in primary and secondary schools in France. It also has been designed so that teachers, educators and outdoor center leaders can easily adapt it to the natural environment in which the activity is held and the time required to set it up.
- Teachers who whish to teach a program on water issues with structured modules have a "ready to go" set-up available for their classes.
- Instructors specializing in the environment can find ideas that complement their own activities.
- Leaders of outdoor school centers can combine one of the program's modules with one of their own activities, which involves water, such as farm visits, gardening projects, etc.
