Nutrition in Uruguay

Nutrition Education "How Do We Eat?" Programme

The goal of this project, known as the "How do we eat?" project, is to educate and offer amusing events, providing the population with easy tips to improve their lifestyle in a cost effective way.  It is a local adaptation of NUTRIMOVIL with 4 pilot events that were launched in 4 neighbourhoods in the outskirts of Montevideo (La Teja, Colón, Belvedere and Prado).

Entertainment and nutrition education are combined through games, and also in recipes and nutritional assessment activities.  Nutritional information is given to parents and alliances with public schools developed in order to encourage teachers to increase information on nutrition, health and wellness taught to children. In the future, we plan to reiterate the experience in new neighbourhoods.

The project is endorsed by the Public Health Ministry, the Montevideo Townhall, the Council of Public Education and the Uruguayan Association of Nutritionists.

Furthermore, a partnership with the Public University of Nutrition has enabled postgraduate courses to be hosted at Nestlé Uruguay's headquarters in 2008. These were held two days per week for the duration of the course.
