With strong support from the local authorities, Nestlé has promoted the construction of more than 4'000 biogas digesters as a solution to animal manure management and to reduce contamination of surface and groundwater quality in the areas of location of its factories. The biogas digesters produce sufficient gas for heating, cooking and even provides some electrical power for the surrounding farms.
