Nutrition in South Africa

MILO Champions Tournament

The Nestlé MILO Champions Tournament, also known as Let's Play, is evidence of our on-going commitment and support to create healthy living among young people and encourage them to participate in sports to change their lives.

The main aim of the programme is to unearth talent and passion for the game of soccer among the youth, with the objective of promoting key values and practices relating to nutrition, health and wellness. School children aged under 13 take part in the programme, as well as their teachers who help organising the kids during the Tournaments. In 2008, 4600 schools participated in the tournament, with 620 coaches interacting with 583,000 kids on a weekly basis.

Key to the success of the tournament roll-out is the collaborative partnership formed with the following organisations:

• South African Schools Football Association (SASFA)
SASFA has experience in running soccer programmes in schools in South Africa and handles all the technical aspects of the tournament such as school recruitment, entry procedures, match fixtures, rules and regulations, safety, etc.

 Super Sport Let's Play
M-NET Super Sport has embarked on a community-based initiative to collect and distribute 1 million soccer balls to communities across South Africa by 2010 through their campaign called “Let’s Play a Million”.

They are our media partners in the tournament and provide the critical role of publicising the tournament.
