Nutrition in Brazil

CAOIM

In collaboration with Universities UNESP - Universidade Estadual de São Paulo and UNIMAR – Universidade de Marilia and the local government, Nestlé launched a Nutrir-financed programme named CAOIM in Marilia, a city close to São Paulo.

This local Nutrir initiative is focused on fighting and curing obesity among children in public schools and attends to 200 children per year.

Educational material for public health professionals and children has been created and training courses for public health professionals in other cities initiated in order to spread the experience. The programme indeed serves as a model for similar programmes in two other cities where it will soon be implemented. Health assistance from doctors and psychologists has also been provided to obese children in order to help them improve their physical condition.

The project is monitored by its local team specially measuring the evolution of obese children involved in the programme in Marilia, as will be in other cities upon implementation of CAOIM.

The successful outcome of the programme has initiated its recognition by ABESO – Associação Brasileiro para o Estudo da Obesidade e da Sindrome Metabólica (the Brazilian society for the study of obestity and metabolic syndrome).
