Nutrition in Peru

Nutrimóvil

Nestlé Peru is aware of the importance of supporting the development of the poor districts of Lima. In Peru, 25.4% of children under 5 years old suffer from chronic malnutrition and often show deficiencies of Vitamin A, while the overweight ratio is also very disturbing. With the aim of helping to address this situation, Nestlé launched its traveling nutrition-education project, Nutrimóvil, in 2004.  The Nutrimóvil is a specially-designed vehicle that offers free nutritional evaluations and provides dietary recommendations to people living in the outskirts and most impoverished areas.

Four specialists in the field of nutrition provide these free consultations in the Nutrimóvil vehicle.  In 2004, approximately 25,000 free consultations were provided, and increasingly more in 2005 and 2006.  By the end of year 2008, this number had reached 130,000 of people from different age groups nationwide.
