Partnership in Sri Lanka

Post Tsunami Reconstruction Project

In December 2004, following the devastating Asian Tsunami, Nestlé Lanka decided to initiate long-term reconstruction projects for tsunami-affected communities in the north, east and south of Sri Lanka. The project aims to understand the needs of the local people, and help rural communities regardless of ethnicity and religion. Nestlé Lanka decided to construct 13 pre-schools and 7 fishing anchorage community centres in affected coastal areas by the end of year 2008.

The project promotes early learning and the activities of the local fishermen in rural communities most affected by the Tsunami. It is in line with Millennium Development Goals 2 and 8 - respectively Achieving Universal Primary Education and Developing Global Partnerships.
