The coffee market is continually fluctuating depending on the amount of beans there are available to buy. When there is an excess supply of coffee beans it causes the price of coffee to fall, and in the past this has reached very low levels. Although prices have improved, the underlying problem remains - and many farmers across the developing world, who rely on growing coffee for their livelihoods, have experienced hardship.
Nestlé's long-term commitment is to develop sustainable agricultural practices, and we have been involved in a number of initiatives for many years. Hazienda and Nescafé Partners' Blend, our Fairtrade certified coffee, are our latest initiatives to help solve this longstanding problem.
Nestlé Sweden was the first of our company's branches in the Nordic countries to launch our Fair Trade coffee - Hazienda, through the Zoégas brand in 2006. The coffee originates from the same source as Nescafé Partners Blend, which was launched in 2008. At present, the coffee is labelled as both Fairtrade and Organic.
